Spring Break 2000 - Bahamas

For Spring Break 2000 we decided to go to the Bahamas and SCUBA dive! Fun Fun! After some planning we made arrangements and soon we were on a plane down to the Grand Bahamas Island.

The first Day we (Vince Scheib, Scott Crosby, Melissa Clark) woke up early and headed over to UNEXSO -- The UNderwater EXplorer SOciety.

We got ready for our first dive of the day. This was to be my first real dive, I was just certified last summer in California.

A bit of waiting for everyone to get ready, Scott and Melissa lounge around a bit.

Soon we're off. The boat takes us out from the mainland just a little ways to get to the dive site.

Down we go! The water is warm, and there's that great rush you get when you can breath freely under water.

The sun is out, and shining very nicely down through the water.

Soon we reach the bottom, everyone is doing fine. The great thing about SCUBA diving is you can swim over each other and take nice pictures like this.

In this area there is an even mix of sandy bottom and coral on rocks. There are many colorful sponges and other marine life. Little fish swim by us all the time.

Visibility was very good, even better than these pictures make it seem. Here you can see a diver rather far beyond Melissa.

Scott has been diving many times. He's been here in the Bahamas three times before.

It's really enjoyable down here. Blowing bubbles never gets old.

There's just so much to look at. Here, see this picture, lots of stuff, but there so much more you can see as you look closer when you're there.

We spent a little over a half an hour down here. The floor was around 45 to 55 feet under water. We even saw some sort of vent which was blowing out warm water.

We headed up, our first dive was great! Here you can see some other diver from a distance.

Back at the dock, we have some time to wait until our next dive.

We grabbed lunch, and gathered in some sun.

Back out to the ocean for the next dive!

Sharks. Sharks all around us. Our second dive was frightfully fun.

We were surrounded by many sharks, and their friends. Here you can see a remora, the little shark sucker fish.

The sharks were about because a dive master was handing out free snacks.

The feeder was wearing chain mail. He was also able to put the sharks in a bit of a trance and play with them.

We had a third dive, but diving isn't the only thing we did in the Bahamas.

I decided to get my hair braided with beads.

These things are so fun! I kept them in for weeks afterwards.

Scott picked up Kalik Beer, which you can't buy in the USA. We brought home a case.

We went out on the beach as well. Scott and I had fun making holes in the sand under water (It was fun, ok?)

And of course we picked up souvenirs and all. It was a really great spring break. We all really enjoyed it.
